About Citizens Advice in North & West Kent

Citizens Advice in North & West Kent ‘CANWK’ is an individual charity and a member of the national Citizens Advice organisation. We provide free, impartial, confidential advice to the public on matters such as debt, benefits, housing, employment, immigration, consumer problems, relationship and family issues, and other legal problems. Our funding comes from public donations, local authorities, and grants and foundations.

We operate across the north and west Kent area with main offices in Dartford, Gravesham, Sevenoaks, Swanley, and Tonbridge. Nine further outreaches offer face to face services at more remote locations in the region. CANWK also operates a five day per week telephone service.

Our advice is provided primarily by trained volunteers supported by paid staff. We also have a number of specialist projects, most of which are funded from grants and foundations to offer services for complex problems that cannot be assisted by our generalist advisers. These projects include:

– Migrant Integration and Support Partnership (MISP) which offers immigration and other advice for migrant communities. Partners include CANWK (lead), Kent Equality Cohesion Council, Rethink, and the Gr@nd.
– Prevention of Actual and Threatened Homelessness (PATH), which helps members of the community to access legal help and practical resources to avoid homelessness. Partners include CANWK (Lead), West Kent Mediation, West Kent Mind, Choices, and Porchlight.

CANWK is also the lead partner and administrator of Advice Together.
